The Board of the Register of Damage for Ukraine convened its 11th meeting, marking another important milestone in our collective efforts to record and address the devastating impact of the war in Ukraine. At this meeting, 4,505 claims were recorded in the Register, taking the total number of claims recorded to over 45,000. These claims encompass the following categories:
- A2.1: Death of an Immediate Family Member
- A2.2: Missing Immediate Family Member
- A3.1: Damage or Destruction of Residential Immovable Property
- A3.2: Damage or Destruction of Non-Residential Immovable Property
The decisions of the Board are available on the Register’s website.
The Board welcomes the launch of new claims categories, which now enable legal entities and the State of Ukraine, including its regional and local authorities, as well as State-owned or controlled entities, to submit claims for compensation for damage. As previously announced, the following categories are now open for submission:
- B1.1, B1.2, C1.1, C1.2 Damage or Destruction of Critical and Non-Critical Infrastructure; and
- C3.1: Damage, Destruction or Loss of Assets.
Legal entities and public authorities across Ukraine have long been preparing to document the losses they have sustained, often under extremely difficult circumstances. The Board emphasises that the opening of these categories gives them a formal avenue to record that damage.
These constitute the first of the B (State of Ukraine) and C (Legal Entities) claims categories, with additional categories to be launched in the coming months.
The Board acknowledges the resilience and perseverance of those who have safeguarded records, maintained operations, and continued to serve their communities despite the challenges of war. Enabling these claims to be submitted is an important step in ensuring that the full scale of damage across Ukraine’s economy, public sector, and infrastructure is properly documented.
Thus far, the Register has received almost 150,000 claims and the Board encourages the submission of claims all open categories.
